Prizren and Peje

During my time in Prishtina I decided to do two day trips to Prizren and Peje, both of them around 2 hours away from Prishtina which made it a better option as a day trip than moving my backpack around and finding a place to stay.

My first outing was to the town of Prizren.
When I arrived I had no idea where the main part of town was so I decided to just walk along and figure it out as I went. Soon after I started I noticed some old boards with the city map and although they weren't in english I knew that if those board started showing up I was somewhat going the right way.

Soon enough I got to the river and just followed it to the main town.

My first stop was to get something to eat, and what could I eat? Burek, OF COURSE! I think Kosovo had had the tastiest burek so far, they are crispy, cheesy, and delicious! (I think I forgot to mention fattening! yikes!)

Burek

I spent my time in Prizren just walking around the cute little town, doing some people watching, finding a store with the ice cream I like and enjoying the Kosovak life style!

All town have a water fountain, I loved seeing people come by and drink some!

The typical Prizren photo! The water, the mosque, the fortress!

In kosovo they have nut shops everywhere, so healthy! haha

After eating (and having ice cream) I had enough energy to go up the hill and check out the amazing view of Prizren from up high. The walk up was steep, hot, and got a little sweaty! haha

Just follow the sign!

Once up the view was actually worth the sweat, the view was pretty good but the people watching was my favorite part. In a world of selfies, selfie sticks, instagram, snapchat, and whatnot I love to step back and look at the behavior of all these people, those who are screaming “look at me” through their social media, posing for a selfie, puffing their lips, hiding the muffin top... all for a like!!!

After some people watching (and my own selfie! haha) I walked around the fortress  and enjoyed the view from different points; sitting on the edge of the wall and just living in the moment, enjoying the time that I had there and the amazing view.

Half concrete jungle...
Half green!

From there I went back down and stopped at the roofless church I could see from the fortress.

By then it was time to head back to the bus station but first I stopped to check out yet another church and walked along the less touristy roads of Prizren.

The following day I woke up early and went to Peje, pronounced “Peh-ah”, even though the forecast was saying that there would be rain.

I walked 30 minutes to the bus stop and then was on a 2 hour ride to Peje.
Just like in Prizren I didn’t know where to walk so I just walked anywhere and found a pedestrian street lined up with shops. The balkans have been terrible for my allergies, I hate hate hate cigarettes and absolutely everybody smokes, my eyes get watery, my throat gets itchy, and I sneeze at the smell of cigarette, so for me walking around these towns is kind of a torture. The sight in these pedestrian streets is quite interesting, you see most of the shop workers outside, they are mostly smoking while they sit in stools outside where and talk to the lady from the shop next door.

I kept walking and reached another pedestrian street, this one filled with tea shops and with beautiful mountains behind it.
I didn’t feel like spending time just walking around the pedestrian street so decided to go out to where the people live and walk the regular streets at it felt to me more like I had in mind of what Kosovo would look like.

Kosovacs really like foreign politicians!

More mother Teresas!

While wondering the streets I saw a guy that looked like a hiker so I just kept following the road to see if there was a path and there was! Peje is well known for its hiking so I decided to follow the path and go hike.

After 20 minutes or so of being on the path thunder started and I had to make a decision: keep hiking or return? Well, I was by myself and if it started raining a lot the path would become mud so I decided to turn around. Three or five minutes after I got out of the path it started pouring! It rained so much I was glad I was not in the path and decided to head back to Prishtina and relax before going back to Macedonia.

What bus stations look like, usually seem pretty empty but there is always a cloud of smoke
and creepiness coming out of it!
