Diving in El Nido

Last night my friends Rosavel and Galen made it to El Nido and I couldn’t be any happier of seeing some familiar faces. I somehow convinced them (well, Galen didn’t need any convincing)  to go diving and even after some hesitation from Rosavel they agreed to do it.

On the morning of our dive we met at the beach at 7:30am to go through some information about the dive and then we were off on the boat to go diving.

The boat waited for us a little bit far from the shore so we had to walk in and carry our bags over our heads.

There were 5 of us doing a discovery dive that day, the other two were a Chilean couple that became our friends almost immediately.  None of the others had tried scuba before so it was nice to know that we would take things slowly.

The first stop of the day was in a shallow area where we were able to practice the skills before going into deeper waters. After 15 minutes or so we were ready to go and explore at deeper levels. In my two prior dives I have been holding on to the guide, on my first one she even tied a belt so she could pull me but this time I did it all on my own. The guide, Sammy, was so much better than my prior two instructors and explained how to go up and down on your own once you are under water so you avoid touching the coral.

The second dive was even better than the first one and the last one of the day (even after only 15 mins after a huge lunch) was spectacular.
The third dive took us in between rock formations with beautiful colorful corals and tons of fish.

This day was definitely the highlight of the trip and probably the best diving so far.

Sunset in El Nido was so beautiful... the sky turned different shades of pink and purple!

At night I invited Guada and Horacio, who happened to be in El Nido, to join us for dinner… Such a wonderful evening!!
