I really didn’t know what to expect of Timisoara and to be honest I only went there because Ryan Air has some cheap flights to Berlin so why not?

Well, after spending a couple of days there I was so glad I went! The city had beautiful architecture and parks all around.

The first thing I did was to go grab a map at the tourist info. I started my walk at Victory square which happened to have an amazing view of the main Orthodox church of Timisoara.

Plaza

National theater

Orthodox church

I decided to go in the church to check it out although I have been to so many orthodox churches. I still find it weird to enter a church and not find benches, instead in the orthodox churches you find seats on the sides of the church. I never sat in one because it felt like they were special and not for the random visitor. This church was actually the first one that had many people sitting on those chairs so I decided to give it a try.
I sat there and observed the many people coming in. Some people would walk straight to the middle to the 3 images there, stop in front of one, crossed themselves 3 times and then kissed the image and moved to the next one doing the same thing. The church was surrounded by these images so the people would go from image to image around the church doing the same ritual. By the altar they would kneel down, put hands together, look up, and pray. I saw one guy reach out to an incense lamp, touch it, and then put its hands all over his face and hair! So interesting how we worship in some many different ways!

I kept walking the streets and passed by an old synagogue

haha saw it on the wall in front of the synagogue. How about Brain AND Boobs?!?!
From there I walked to a beautiful little square with nice old looking buildings and sat on a bench under a tree for a while and enjoyed a little bit of shade while I examined the map and figured out my next move.

From the square I decided to see some of the remainings of the timisoara wall but it ended up being very disappointing.

I walked by through many streets looking at the art and admiring the buildings until I got to the one church I was looking for.

I entered the church and then decided to see if there was an exit at the back of the church.

It turned out that there was and I witnessed maybe one of the most beautiful plazas, Unirii plaza.  Maybe I am easily impressed when it comes to plazas but Romania has had some of the most beautiful ones! Brasov was breath takingly beautiful, then Sibiu just stole my heart, and then this one... this one leaves you speechless! It is huge, it is colorful, it is so pretty! The combination of the architecture with the colors, the flowers, and the whole ambiance of the place makes it so special!

I had had enough walking by then so I decided to go back to the main plaza for ice cream and rest at the hostel since it was so hot!
Later in the day I went for another walk and for a free concert at the Botanical Gardens.

It was crazy to me that at 10pm parents were still out with their children on a week day at the park for a concert!

The following day I decided to take a bike around town. The beautiful thing about Timisoara is that it is surrounded by parks! I kid you not, around the hostel there are four parks! No matter where you walk you will be able to find a park to relax.

The cool thing about going on a bike is that you get to explore the un touristic areas and see a little bit more of the local life.

I found their beer factory!

My three days in Timisoara were great and I absolutely loved the city. Unfortunately that was the end of Romania for me and now off to Berlin!
