Made it to Berlin and super excited to spend the whole time with people I knew and not at a hostel!

The original plan was to spend 6 days in Berlin but ended up getting there 5 days earlier because my friends from El Salvador were passing through and I was super excited I actually bought a new ticket and let my bought ticket go to waste. As a budget traveler this is huge, $30 might not seem a lot but when it buys you a whole day in a country you think it twice.

I arrived in Berlin and my friend Jenny, whom I met in Sri Lanka, picked me up at the airport, we went out for Indian food, and then headed to my home for the next 5 days!!!

I was in Berlin two years ago so I thought this time I would relax a little, catch up on my pictures and blogs before my friends got to Berlin.
Jenny did a great job at making me feel comfortable at her house, having breakfast with me everyday,  and showing me parts of Berlin I hadn't seen before.

Jenny leaving for work! haha

Walking through a park

There were lamps from many different cities (none of them worked)

The angel!

Haagen Dazs makes us happy!

On Friday my friends arrived from El Salvador and saw them for a little bit in the noisiest bar/ restaurant I had been in a while. We then moved on to a more chilled out bar but since they had just arrived we made plans for the next day to go to a bar at night and we all went home.
The next day Jenny and I slept in, went to a German farmers market and relaxed.

I texted my friends to see what the plan was but it wasn't until late at night that they responded that they were tired and they were going to sleep!
I couldn't believe that I had purchased a new ticket and came to Berlin 5 days in advance to not see them (well... I saw them for like 3 hours the day before but still!)
I really didn't know how to feel... It was a mix of angry, sad, and disappointed. I told myself that that is exactly why I should never get excited about things, because when I allow myself to get too excited things don't work out the way I want them to.

My feelings were hurt, but my brain was trying to use logic in order to balance my emotions. On the one hand I completely understood that they were tired and they needed to rest but I couldn't understand why they didn't text before because we could have joined them during the day. I think what affected me the most was that after 11 months of traveling somehow I just craved having something from home and I was just disappointed.

Anyhow, Jenny and I finished our dinner and then headed out with some friends of her and ended up in a super cool secret party. In order to enter the secret party we had to go to a convenience store and say a secret code and then the bouncer would open the door, which was a fake beer fridge and in we went to the secret and probably illegal party! haha

On sunday I felt very German when I joined Jenny and her neighbors in a gathering in the courtyard of her apartment building. I was able to taste real German food and hangout with a baby! haha

From the gathering Jenny and I left to see her parents in the suburbs of Berlin and I spent two nights there relaxing and catching up on some travel plans and whatnot.

Lunch with Inge!

By then it was time to welcome my dear friend Claudia, who flew from SF to spend a week in Berlin and celebrate my birthday with me!
We spent 5 days in Berlin and there were 2 things that we could always count on: laughter and alcohol! haha (oh! and stories... lots of them!)

Once Claudia arrived I moved from Jenny's house to my friends Matthias and Kent who welcomed us as their first overnight guests in their new beautiful flat in Berlin!
First... SHOTS!

Then... Wine!

and guess what? MORE WINE! (and beer!) haha

Weather wasn't the best while we were there, lots and lots of rain but we still managed to see a lot of Berlin and enjoy our time together.

We stopped at the Berlin wall...

... Walked by the river...

Visited the Reichstag (the German Parliament) with Jenny and got to see the one and only sunset I got during my 10 days in Berlin!

Claudia enjoying the view.

People can actually see the seats of the Parliament!

The angel from the Reichstag

We also made some time to visit some museums

The Memorial to the murdered Jews and the museum...

Letters from Jews all over Europe

And checked out the Brandenburg gate..
First time... Rainy

second time... better!

... Claudia ate some German delicacies!

Strolled around Museum Island

And of course celebrated my birthday!

I loved loved loved being in Berlin, a place where 3 out of 4 restaurants displayed a vegetarian menu, where you can hear 7 different languages being spoken in the same block, and where things are a little weird.

To finish our Berlin experience, on our last day we went to a day party where everybody who was at the club on sunday at 3pm seemed like they had been at the same club since friday night! All the people looked like they were out of their mind, very high in some far away galaxy! We lasted about an hour or so until we decided to leave and sadly say bye to Jenny.

My time in Berlin was amazing, specially being able to share it with some awesome people! <3
