Meteora

Mid morning the following day we left Kato Gatzea and drove to Meteora. The drive was just wonderful although we got some rain.  Driving through green mountains and looking at yellow wild flower fields all over was awesome; both my mom and I were delighted by the views.
My favorite view was the 5km before getting to our hotel when we could see Meteora from the highway and below it Kalampaka, our final destination for the day.

We checked-in in our hotel and was amazed at amazing view of Meteora!

Foggy when we got there

Night view from our room

It was raining so we decided to rest and just chill in the room for a bit. At around 4pm it was still raining a bit but my mom and I decided to put on our jackets and go out to check out the view although it was cloudy. We drove about 10 minutes and got to the famous Meteora monasteries and stopped at different view points to take some photos and the view was just incredible!!! I knew the pictures would look really nice in black and white with all the fog! Once we were up there the sun at times got out and we were able to see a more clear Meteora.

The following morning we visited one of the monasteries, the great Meteoron. The Great Meteoron monastery is the biggest and oldest of them all. We had to go up and down a bunch of stairs to reach it, good thing it wasn’t too crowded and we could rest on our way up!

So many stairs!

Quick picture stop with a Monastery behind us.
Inside the monastery was very beautiful, it had an orthodox cathedral covered with frescos and the traditional orthodox chandeliers all around. We also visited 3 different museums displaying orthodox symbols, vestments, paintings, and lots of info (in greek) about the monasteries (I assume.)

Real skeletons!!! from Monks who used to live in the Monastery!

The view from the Monastery was spectacular, overlooking Kalampaka and many of the monasteries.

We then decided to drive around and see the monasteries from some other viewpoints but decided to skip visiting them until later in the day.

We then went down the hill to the city of Kastraki to check it out and have some lunch. The views from the town were really beautiful, no matter where we walked we could see the Meteora rocks or beautiful mountains.

In the afternoon we went back to the monasteries and I made a mistake and all the monasteries were closed by the time we got there so we, once again, checked out the views and took a bunch of pictures!

Agios StephanosMonastery, the one we can see from our window.

Agios Stefanos Monastery behind us.

After our failed attempt to check out the monasteries we went back to Kalampaka and walked around town.

Both my mom and I loved Meteora, now off to Delphi!
