The boys from Luxembourg recommend to stop in Shaxi Instead of going directly to Dali and I am so glad I took their advice!
(To get to Shaxi I had to take a bus from Lijian to Jianchuan and then a local bus to Shaxi)

Shaxi is an old Chinese town that has not yet been commercialized and made very touristy. You can still see some of the original buildings and structures in the town. It really feels authentic and there aren't that many tourists which makes it so much more enjoyable.

It is sad to KNOW that in 5-10 years shaxi will be yet another touristy town plastered in red cement and made "beautiful" again. With its renovation it will be loosing its authenticity, and covering up all its years of history and the stories behind the bright red bricks and mud. All the villagers that now live in these houses will be forced out to commercialize the town and make it more appealing to tourist! Such a shame!

I spent most of my time in Shaxi just relaxing and walking around the small village.

My first day I went out to explore and ended up crossing the bridge and exploring the village on the other side.

I walked through the fields and saw people cutting the crops and animals munching on the pasture; while walking through the village I was able to peak into the courtyards and see millions of corn and peppers drying up.

At one time I ended up at the end of a street in front of the field and I just decided to make my own path.

Loved seeing people working on the field and the animals!

The houses are mostly made out of mud/clay and I even saw cacti growing on the clay roof tile!

I really enjoyed my walk and while on a main street I saw these four kids helping their mother pack a little truck full of dry corn into sacs. It was so sweet!

My favorite part was probably  just being there, alone, in the middle of nowhere surrounded by serenity and beauty!

The sunset was exceptional!

The following two days I spent them just walking around the tiny town and relaxing.

One day I was walking by the river and a group of girls kept looking at me and then they all ran towards me and one said "Hello!" and gave me a gummy bear. They all ran away, I kept walking and then they came back and did the same, this time they gave me their whole bag of gummies, giggled and ran away. haha

The town of Shaxi was just so charming... I fell in love with it!

 A dog outside my hostel!

How cute is this lady?

One morning I woke up wanting to go horse back riding because I thought it would be cool to go around the village and the paths but then I figured out that the only horse back riding was the one where a guy pulls a rope and you are on top of the horse! I think that's ok for kids, not for me, I wanted to go wild and free! haha

Although Shaxi is not very touristy it had a couple of nice little cafes and THE BEST pizza I've had for like ever! It's organic (and... I love organic!) they make their own dough, and even their cheese! ... I had to have it.. even at the steep 80yuans a piece ($12 which is sooooo expensive for China!) but it was the best decision of the day! Yumm!

While in Shaxi I stayed in a super cute hostel that had 2 massive dogs, one who wore an apron! haha

I ABSOLUTELY loved loved loved Shaxi and it was nice to have two of the guys I met on the Tiger Leaping Gorge hike there and have company for dinner! :)

Now I'm off to Dali!!!
