Montenegro is B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L!!!!!!!!!

I arrived in an afternoon bus from Shkoder and it was pouring. Once at the station I decided to walk to the hostel with a guy I met in the bus, Billy. After walking the wrong direction we turned around and all soaked we made it to the hostel and checked in. I decided to stay in to avoid getting even and just enjoyed a relaxed evening inside the dorm room free of rain!

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do or see in Montenegro but the more I looked at my options the less likely it was to go and explore without renting a car or taking an expensive $55 day trip. I weighed the options and opted just to stay around Kotor and use the public transportation although I was not going to be able to see as much as I could if I took the tour. At the end it was a good thing I didn’t because 1. it was very expensive, and 2. my roommates left before 8am and came back at 11pm and said most of the day was spent in the bus and all the stops were really quick only to snap pictures and the longest stops were for breakfast and lunch.

The following day I wanted to visit Perast so Billy and I got on the local bus (couldn’t believe that we had to pay a one euro tax to use the bus station!) Since we paid the extra tax we thought we should stretch our money and instead of getting off in Perast we should go to Risan (2-3km aways) to check it out and then walk to Perast so we would get some cool views and some exercise.

We got off in Risan and walked around the little market and to the nearby church. The town was tourist free, charming, but not much going on so we quickly started walking over to Perast.

On our way we walked by the bay (leads to the Adriatic sea) and noticed some floating devices and wondered what they were for. The first time we saw them they looked all scattered around but as we got closed we saw that it was a total visual illusion and that they were actually all in a row. The floaties are meant to catch mussels that will stick to the sides and then the fishermen get them out and scrape the mussels off to sell them… interesting.

The view along the edge of the bay was astounding! The mountains and the water made the walk very pleasant.

PERAST

Once we arrived in Perast we were bombarded by guys trying to sell us a boat taxi to the little island of Our Lady of the Rocks. We knew we would do it but first we went for a stroll in the charming town of Perast, surrounded by stone houses decorated with beautiful flower pots.

Billy and I walked to the end of the town and then walked back to the center of town and decided to take the boat to the Lady of the Rocks right in front of the main square so we could get a nice picture of Perast from the boat.

The 5 euro ride to the island wasn’t that exciting and neither was the island but I thought it was worth the short little trip and the view was pretty nice.

KOTOR

We then decided to go back to Kotor and after a little rest Billy and I went up to the Kotor Fortress.
The walk up was steep but well worth the sweat! The view from up high was magnificent!
First view point... Beautiful Kotor down below!

Break... perfect for a picture

Look... I'm so high!

Look... some more to go!

Beautiful Balkans!

Back down...

The rest of the day we walked around the charming town of Kotor.

CETINJE

On my last day in Montenegro I decided to go to Centinje and check out the town, this time with my new friend and roommate, Leo.
Well, Cetinje was super boring! It took us more time to get there and back than the time we actually spent in the city but at least we got out of Kotor and try something different.

1 km walk up hill to get here.

My favorite part of Cetinje were the posters about tolerance for art exhibition!

BUDVA

After the not very exciting visit in Cetinje we took the bus to Budva, one of most famous beaches in Montenegro. I had heard that it was super overrated so I wasn’t expecting much out of it but I actually really liked it. Yes! It was very very very touristy but it was cute, and coming from Cetinje anything would be better!

Male tanning... Budva style!

Soaking up the sun!
Here is a nice view of Budva but the statue really bother me. Well, not the statue itself but the location of the discoloring of the statue. Why is it that this statue's breast is the one that gets touched the most? Why we, as a society, think that it is ok to touch the breasts of a statue? Why do we laugh when a stupid guys goes to the statue and touches it? Is that where this idea of touching a women's private part becomes acceptable? I don't know about you but I would never walk to David and grab his junk, right?

Beautiful blue water

Loved this man reading in the middle of a chaotic town square.

My time in Montenegro was lovely but is now time to go to the next country in the Balkans... Bosnia and Herzegovina!
