The beaches of the South!

I decided to go down south to the beach just because that’s supposedly a thing you must do when you go to Sri Lanka.

After the safari (and complaining to my hotel owner about the disgusting room I got) I left Tissa and headed down to Tangalle. On the bus I texted my friend Jenny that I was going down there and to let me know if they were around so we could meet up. She immediately responded and invited me to stay the night with her and her mom in a resort. I of course said yes and it felt so good to be in a decent hotel where I actually didn’t feel the need of wearing my flip flops around the room (and the wifi was great!)
The next day Jenny and her mom changed hotels and so I went with them and spent the day at another beautiful resort with a great looking beach.

In the afternoon I decided it was time to leave so I took the bus to Matara and made it to Polhenna beach where I stayed in a super chill hostel.

The hostel with right by the water and in order to watch the sunset one had to get in the water and swim 50 meters or so. The red sun was huge and beautiful right in front of me... this picture does zero justice to it!

I spent my time in the south mostly in the busses going from one town to another.
I have come to love Sri Lankan busses, mostly those with music or a tv screen with funny music videos. My preference is the window seat and just stare out of it, letting my hair fly all over! I really feel like those dogs sticking their head out of the car window.

One day I ended up in beautiful Galle, a Colonial looking town with stone streets and nice houses, boutique hotels, and shops. I walked around Gale fort and sat to look at the view and at the people swimming at the beach.
Seeing the locals swimming in saris reminded me of my visit to Goa, India, only this beach was not dirty!

While I was in a store in Galle I heard music playing so decided to go out and check out what was going on; it was a wedding parade! So exciting!

Until I saw it was a wedding for tourists!

I ended leaving the South only after four days and decided to pretty much travel from the very bottom of Sri Lanka to the very top to Jaffna.
