Kutaisi (Georgia)

The following day we moved on to Kutaisi, one of Georgia’s former capital.

We arrived at our “hostel” that turned out to be more like a hotel and were welcomed by the owner who couldn’t speak english. He offered us some wine and we said no but he called us down, grabbed a bottle of his home made wine and served both of us a small glass. We sat for a bit and tried to communicate while we sipped on our wine. After a while we decided to leave but we hadn’t finished our wine and Giorgi, the owner, made the sign for us to chug it, so I did, and so did Ingrid!

From there we went to see what Kutaisi had to offer and checked out the local market, which is supposed to be one of the biggest in Georgia.

We entered the market and the guy in the back offered us some Chuchkela; Ingrid got some and I said no but he insisted so I took a little piece and ate it but we didn't want to buy so we said thank you and he got upset and started screaming at us! I wasn't our fault, he was the one who offered not us the one who asked for it!

I love this watermelon car!

I couldn't believe the amount of cigarettes they sold here!

After the market we went up to yet another Monastery, the famous Gelati Monastery. The monastery was like many of the other ones but had some really beautiful frescos.

The bus came 5-10 minutes before schedule and some people who we thought were waiting for it went back into the monastery and the driver didn't even wait for the departure time to go so we left early! I was so glad ingrid and I waited outside instead of inside and missing it.

Once we arrived back to town we decided to walk up the hill and check out the Bagrati Cathedral (as if I hadn't had enough of churches already!)

The following day we got up extra early and went on an adventure to find Martvili canyon. Googleing like crazy I found one time table for busses from Kutaisi and there were very few going directly so by 7:30 we were both sitting at a bus on our way to the Canyon.

Once at the canyon we decided to pay the 15GEL ($7.30) to get on an inflatable boat and have a 15 min ride inside the canyon. The ride was nice but not really worth the price. Ingrid worked hard to move us through!

So peaceful...

... NOT! It was a craziness of boats!

From the boat ride we decided to go walk around in the path to check out the canyon.

From there I decided to go back to the hostel and relax while Ingrid went on an adventure with an Egyptian guy we met on our boat ride at the canyon.

That night Ingrid came back and we went for our last dinner together, it had been fun to have a traveling partner but as always I have to say goodbye and go my way.
